SAM'S BAR

SAM'S BAR

HIDDEN NARRATIVES OF HISTORY

Sam's bar pays homage to Sam McIver, a founding member of Barrowland Ballroom and the father of our current director, Ann. The bar was meticulously crafted under the guidance of Tom Joyes, our dedicated General Manager who has been with us for an impressive 39 years. It is a rarity to come across a music venue like ours that remains a cherished family-owned establishment, but that is exactly what sets Barrowland apart.

On your next visit to Barrowland Ballroom, be sure to explore the hidden gems waiting to be discovered at Sam's bar.

The arched ceiling in Sam's bar is reminiscent of the original stage, which was constructed with the curves of a guitar at the back of the room.

The gantry is adorned with small prize boxes, symbolizing the olden days. These boxes, once filled with rewards, were presented to outstanding ballroom dancers on the main stage.

The bar is adorned with art deco music plinths, paying homage to Billy McGregor & The Gay Birds, the band that delighted dancers since the beginning. These plinths, illuminated and featuring our iconic red B, create a captivating atmosphere.

At the top of the bar, you'll find a charming vintage musical instrument exhibit, serving as a tribute to our origins.
