In preparation for their January 1985 performance, Simple Minds set up lighting support equipment to create an impressive show. As a generous gesture, they decided to leave this rigging behind as a gift to the Barrowland venue, benefiting future artists who performed there. The band Big Country was the first to take advantage of this equipment. Additionally, Simple Minds utilised the iconic Barrowland setting to film a music video for their popular song, Waterfront.
